The exam

Fifteen scenarios, ninety minutes, and not a single essay

Part 2 rewards the candidate who can say the right thing briefly, in typed text, under the clock.

The Part 2 sitting is a single online assessment of fifteen clinical, scenario-based questions answered in ninety minutes. That is six minutes a scenario, including the time it takes to read it. Answers are typed into the exam application, and the Faculty is explicit that it wants them short and succinct rather than essay-length.

Six minutes a scenario. Read, decide, type, move on.

The standard is that of a dentist one to two years past qualification, with the weight on clinical dentistry and some of the clinical science beneath it. Each question is standard-set, and the pass mark is applied to your total across all fifteen, so a weak scenario can be carried by strong ones.

The traditional clinical skills station is not run online, though questions may still draw on that material. Two practical points decide more results than they should: candidates are expected to type at forty words a minute or better, and a CPR/BLS certificate dated within the past two years must be valid on exam day.

This board is organised around those facts. The Scenario desk drills the six-minute rhythm. The Typing room keeps your speed honest. The Topics page tracks what is read and what is filed, and the Library will hold your resources as they arrive.

    Typing room

    Are you at forty?

Every answer in Part 2 is typed, against the clock: fifteen scenarios in ninety minutes. Slow typing costs marks even when you know the answer, and the Faculty expects at least 40 words a minute. Speed comes from practice, so train here often.

Practise on a computer keyboard, not your phone. The exam is sat on a computer, and thumb-typing speed does not carry over.
